Pupil Premium Grant
The Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is additional funding provided by the government. The purpose of this funding is the raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.
The grant is aimed at children who are or have been registered for free school meals (FSM) at any point in the last six years, are in local authority care or have been adopted.

Key Barriers
The key barriers to future attainment for eligible children at St Pauls are:
- Lack of resilience impacting on self-confidence and co-operation when approaching work
- Social and emotional issues affecting learning behaviours that support independent learning, including mental health issues.
- Spelling, punctuation and grammar skills limiting writing ability across the curriculum
- Reading ability affecting reading comprehension skills across the curriculum
Funding
How much funding is available?
- £1,455 per pupil eligible for FSM
- £2,530 per pupil identified as being in local authority care or adopted
If a pupil is registered as eligible for FSM and is also identified as being in local authority care or adopted, they will attract the £2,530 rate.
The Virtual School Head (VSH) in the local authority that looks after the pupil manages funding for pupils in local authority care.
How will the funding be used?
Most of the funding will contribute towards additional staffing for individual and small group work to raise the attainment of eligible pupils in English (writing, reading and grammar) and mathematics to enable them to close the gap on their peers.
The remaining funds will be used for art therapy, music therapy, drama therapy, 1:1 music tuition, purchase of IT and other academic resources and support towards the cost of educational visits if these activities are seen to impact on closing the gap.
These funds are used at the discretion of the Executive Headteacher / Head of School.
How can you help?
School funding is based on a formula, which among many other elements, includes the number of children who are entitled to Free School Meals.
Even if your child does not wish to take Free School Meals but is entitled to receive them, it is beneficial to the school for the eligibility to be recorded as we receive additional funding for six years. This is especially important now as, from Autumn 2023, the Mayor of London introduced the Universal Free School Meals grant which entitles all primary school aged children in London to receive free school meals.
