Church Service for Epiphany

Today, the whole school attended St Paul’s Church for a service celebrating Epiphany and for the Blessing of the Chalk.

Father Stephen led the service and after the acclamation we sang ‘We Three Kings of Orient Are”.  We then had a special prayer of the day and listened to a reading about the story of Epiphany.  After another hymn and responses, 2 people from each class went to the front of the Church and stood in a semi-circle.  The chalk was blessed and then handed out to the children with a piece of paper of instructions.

Following more prayers and another hymn, we returned to school.  When we got back, we read the instructions and used the chalk to write outside the classroom door ’20 + C + M + B   18′.  This represents this year plus the initials of each of the Three Kings and means ‘May Christ bless this house’.

We enjoy going to church as it’s a lovely place to think about God and we particularly liked this service.
