Packed Lunches

If your child brings a packed lunch to school, please remember that it should include:

✓ Drink:  (not fizzy drinks)

✓ A healthy, balanced meal

✓ No sweets

✓ No nuts (we are a nut-free school, this also includes sesame seeds)

School uniform

We have noticed quite a few children are not in the correct uniform, including the correct PE kit. Please make sure your child has the current PE kit, including the black tracksuit.

Neurodiversity Celebration Week

Next week, we will be participating in Neurodiversity Celebration Week at school. Throughout the week, the children will be learning more about what it means to be neurodivergent. During the week, some of our Year 6 pupils will be giving a presentation to each class to support the children in their understanding of neurodiversity and to share their own personal experiences. A highlight of the week will be a performance by the Sing Out choir on Tuesday 17th March. This is a fundraising event for One-to-One Enfield, who run the choir, and we would be very grateful for any donations using the QR code on the flyer below. One-to-One Enfield is a charity that works towards inclusion of people with learning difficulties and autistic adults so that they can live their lives on an equal footing to others in a community that is accessible to them. The children and staff loved watching the choir perform last year, and we really look forward to welcoming them again.

The Great Debate

On Wednesday evening, five children from Years 5 and 6 represented the school in The Great Debate competition. They spoke confidently and thoughtfully as they argued against the idea that computer games are beneficial for children.

The team worked extremely well together, presenting clear points throughout the debate. Their hard work paid off as they successfully made it through to the final round of the competition.

We are very proud of their effort, teamwork, and excellent speaking skills. Well done to all involved!

Reception – Growing Cress

Reception have enjoyed planting their own pots of cress over the last two weeks. We have observed growth overtime, spoken about our observations and drawn predictions of how we think the cress will continue to grow.

First, we planted the seeds in a pot with a damp piece of tissue.

Last week the Reception children grew their own cress! They carefully sprinkled the seeds onto damp tissue in yoghurt pots and helped water them. We discussed what plants need to grow and predicted what might happen over the next few days. The children showed great curiosity while exploring the tiny seeds.

Year 1 – Design and Technology Lesson

The Year 1 children have been exploring mechanisms and learning how they can use them to create a moving picture based on part of the story The Magic Bed, which they have recently studied in English. In earlier lessons, they investigated how vertical and horizontal sliders work. This week, they used the creative space in the STEAM room to begin designing their own moving picture projects. The children first chose a part of the story to focus on, which helped them decide on the background and the moving element of their design. They then considered whether a vertical or horizontal slider would be the most suitable mechanism to bring their picture to life.

Year 2 – Design and Technology

Year 2 had a fantastic time in their DT lesson last week making their own healthy wraps. The children explored different ingredients, talked about what makes a balanced meal, and practised important food preparation skills such as spreading, chopping soft ingredients, and assembling their wraps. They enjoyed choosing colourful vegetables and tasty fillings to create their own combinations. It was wonderful to see the children taking pride in their creations.

Year 3

Year 3 have been blowing us away with their recorder skills this half-term. Children have been learning the B note and have put this into lots of songs. We are ready to take the big next step to an A note next.
Tickets for the recorder concert will be available in the summer term - we’re sure they’re going to be the hottest tickets in town.

Year 4

Year 4 children prove that it is (almost) impossible, or at least very awkward, to chew food using only your front incisor teeth.

Year 5

As part of our Art unit this term, we have been working towards making our Ancient Greek pots. This week, children have designed their Greek pot, adding detail such as Greek myths, symbols and Greek patterns. We then practised making a pinch pot and coil pot and discussed the difference between them and the method that would work for making our large Ancient Greek pots next week.

Year 6 - P.E.

This week in P.E. Year 6 were finding ways to use flight from their hands to travel over apparatus. Some examples included ‘through vault progressions’ and ‘bunny hops’ from side to side over a bench.
