Our value this half term is hope:

Romans 12:12 ~ Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.

Annual Services

Our Annual Services take place on Wednesday 6th May, at St Paul’s Church, where we will celebrate and give thanks for our school.

  • Reception and Key Stage 1 service at 2.30pm
  • Key Stage 2 service at 6.00pm

After the afternoon service, children in Reception and Key Stage 1 should be collected from the church at approx. 3.00pm, rather than from school. Any children attending Extra Club will be walked back to school by staff.

All Key Stage 2 pupils are expected to attend the evening service in full school uniform. They should come along with a parent, carer or family member, who they will sit with during the service. We expect the service to finish at around 6.45pm.

Year 6 SATS

During the week of the 11th May Year 6 will be sitting their SATS tests. I am sure all their hard work and preparation will enable them all to do very well. Good luck Year 6.

Celebrating our Cultures Day

Did you know that we have over 22 different cultures represented and several languages spoken within our school community? On the 25th June, the children will be invited to celebrate through a number of different activities. If you would like to take part/help on the day, please email stpaulsedigroup@outlook.com.

Children are able to come in non-uniform on the day, wearing something to reflect their culture / nationality. This could be a T-shirt of a particular colour, or a whole outfit / cultural attire.

Complaint from neighbours

Unfortunately, I have received another complaint from a neighbour of the school about parents/carers blocking access to their garage on Green Moor Link. Please can I ask that everyone is considerate when parking at the beginning and end of the day.

Outreach News!

Community Charitable Event

This Saturday, 25th April, Hugh Myddelton House Care Home are putting on a charitable event with a magician and entertainment between 4pm and 6pm. Children from St Paul’s have visited the residents in the past, and we are hoping that this is something we can re-establish soon. The care home is located at 25 Old Farm Avenue in Southgate N14 5QR. They would love to see people at this fun event!

Butterfly Reflections

6th June to 7th June, West Lodge Park, Cockfosters.

North London Hospice is hosting an event in memory of loved ones. Up to 500 delicately crafted butterflies will be displayed in the peaceful gardens at West Lodge Park, Cockfosters Road. For a donation, you can order a handcrafted decorative stainless-steel butterfly in memory of a loved one. They can be personalised with a name or short message. The butterflies will be displayed from 6th to 7th June.

More details and an order form can be found on the North London Hospice website using this link:

We will also be donating as a school, more details to follow.

Anti-Racism Statement

If you haven’t already done so, please take a few minutes to complete the Anti-Racism Statement Google Form shared last week.

Although rare, we are aware that there have been some incidents of racism at St Paul’s. We are committed alongside the EDI group to making sure that every child and member of staff feels safe, respected, and included in our school community.

Reception

In Reception, we have been learning about diversity and what makes each of us special and unique. The children enjoyed a parachute game where they swapped places based on different characteristics such as eye colour, hair colour, languages spoken at home, and age. This helped us explore how we are all different in many ways.

We also discussed how our differences—such as appearance, families, interests, and languages—make our class special. The children then worked in pairs using mirrors to observe themselves and talk about how they are similar to and different from their partner.

As part of the introduction to our new RE topic about places of worship, Reception have been learning about buildings that are special to them. We created their own homes using cereal boxes.

First we covered our boxes in sugar paper using glue.

Year 1

Children in Year 1 are learning about landscape paintings in their art lessons this half term. Last week, they looked at seaside landscape paintings by Renoir, Soroll and Kroyer. They practised sketching the key features of a seaside landscape and composing their own pictures.

This week, they created a textured collage based on Van Gogh’s ‘Fishing Boats on the Beach at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer’. They were excited to use the different materials, including sand!

Layering tissue paper.

Creating the sky and sea.

Reusing cardboard to create boats.

Some finished artwork.

Year 2

This week, in Year 2 the children got hands-on with clay, experimenting with different utensils to create textures and patterns. From rolling and pressing to carving unique designs, they enjoyed expressing their ideas and crafting their own imaginative pieces. A wonderful mix of creativity, exploration, and fun!

Year 3

At the end of last term, Year 3 were fortunate to welcome Mrs Reid, who spoke to them about her role as a nutritional therapist and how to use information on food packaging to make healthier choices.

The children thoroughly enjoyed a range of hands-on activities, including sorting different types of packaging into groups—for example, foods a footballer might eat before a match and those suitable for someone looking to build muscle.

Year 4

Year 4 have been enjoying their class text, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and have been exploring the authorial techniques used throughout the story. To deepen their understanding of the writer’s choices, the children had the exciting opportunity to taste Turkish Delight, just like Edmund in the story! This immersive experience helped them generate a range of concrete and abstract nouns inspired by their senses and Edmund’s reactions. They will be using this rich vocabulary to create expanded noun phrases, which will support their poetry writing later this week.

Year 5

Year 5 had an amazing time at the Science Museum! We explored the Wonder Lab, observed chemistry experiments and watched a 3D Under the Sea IMAX experience.
