SATS

Year 6 SATs week in 2024 will take place in the week beginning Monday 13th May 2024. The SATs tests will take place throughout the week, starting on Monday 13th and ending on Thursday 16th May 2024. It is an important week for children in Year 6 and these are the key dates to be particularly aware of.

Winter Weather

In the event that the school needs to be closed due to winter weather conditions, the closure would be announced to parents via email and announced on the website, so please make sure to check your emails and the website regularly. The decision to close is never taken lightly. The main considerations are:

  • Can sufficient staff get to school for it to be open?
  • Are the school buildings and grounds safe?
  • Can parents get children safely to and from school?

Once these questions have been considered, a decision is taken by the Executive Head Teacher and Head of School.

School Street

Thank you to all of the parents who have volunteered to help with this initiative. I am happy to inform parents that due to the increase of parental help we are able to continue to run School Street on Ringwood Way.

Peace Dove Art Installation

Some of the children in KS2 were lucky enough to take part in an art installation currently taking place at St Albans Cathedral.

Peace Doves is an art installation by Peter Walker Sculptor, in which 10000 paper doves will hang from the Cathedral tower. Children were asked to write a message of hope or peace on a dove which is now on display in the Cathedral.

More information can be found using the link:

 https://www.stalbanscathedral.org/Pages/Events/Category/peace-doves and

The installation is on display until Tuesday 13 February if any families would like to view it.

Parking by the back gate

A reminder that parents should not park or pull into the road by George Parr House when dropping children off at the back gate.

Arts Week

We are still looking for parental help during Arts Week. If you feel you are able to run a workshop, whether it's art- or drama-led, please let Mrs Tippett – Nestor know via the school office.

Online Safety

I have been made aware of a few incidents of children being unkind to other children via WhatsApp and Roblox chat groups. A reminder that WhatsApp has a suggested age of 16+.

Please make sure you have the correct filters in place on electronic devises. It is also imperative that parents/carers are aware of their child(s) actions when online and keep a close eye on what they are doing.

More information about online safety can be found here:

https://www.nspcc.org.uk/keeping-children-safe/online-safety/online-safety-blog/2023-01-12-is-whatsapp-safe-for-my-child/

We also have an online safety section on the website with valuable resources for parents.

Reception's seasonal changes learning

Reception have been learning about winter and seasonal changes. They did a range of activities this week linked to this. Here are some of the things they got up to.

Spring Term 2023 - 24 Schedule

Please click here for a PDF of the Spring Term 2023-24 Schedule which contains important dates for the term.

Census Day

School Census Day is on Thursday 18 January. As you may know, this is an important date in the school calendar as it impacts on various aspects of school funding, for example, school meals. We will be having a pizza day and encourage as many pupils as possible to have a school meal next Thursday to maximise our school meal uptake which, in turn, increases our funding. Please don't hesitate to contact the school office if you have any queries.

Thank you in advance.

Lost Property

Don't forget to check the Lost Property table in the entrance hall as there are still a number of unclaimed items.

We're also in possession of two adult coats (one Monsoon, the other unlabelled) - see the photos below - which we would love to reunite with their owners!
