Punctuality and Lateness

A big thank you to the majority of families who arrive on time each morning. School is open from 8.45am and children must be in class ready to learn after the gates close at 8.55am. A small number of families are regularly late, and this lateness is disruptive for the child, class and their teachers. Please ensure that your child(ren) are in class on time each day. Thank you for your help with this.

Important Diary Dates!

Polling Station

School will be closed on Thursday 2nd May as it is being used as a polling station in the local government elections.

INSET day 19 February

A reminder that school will be closed to pupils on Monday 19 February as it is an INSET day.

Amazon Wish list

As you will be aware school budgets are very tight at the moment. With this in mind, each class now has an Amazon wish list where parents can purchase items for their child’s class. There is also a wishlist for SEND and the garden area.

The links for individual classes are below and orders can be delivered directly to the school.

School Street

We have not been able to cover school street on a Monday afternoon. We are still in need of 2 volunteers to cover the gates either end of Ringwood Way. Please let Mr Crouch know if you are able to help.

Arts Week

We are really looking forward to all the exciting activities planned for Arts Week which starts on the 5th February.

Please make sure your child has an art apron available during the week.

Eucharist at Holy Trinity

The children in Year 5 and 6 will be attending Eucharist at Holy Trinity Church on Tuesday next week. Please drop the children off at Holy Trinity for the service to start at 9.05am.  Siblings can be dropped off at school first.

Prom Praise for Schools (PP4S)

In March, the school choir will be embarking on an exciting trip to the Royal Albert Hall, to take part in Prom Praise for Schools. In preparation, we were lucky to welcome Pete Desmond, one of the organisers, in to school to provide an exciting musical workshop for us. We took part in a group composition, had a go at conducting and learned lots about the different sections of the orchestra.

Collective Worship

At St Paul’s, we see our daily acts of collective worship as time for children and staff to come together and reflect on their own values and beliefs, as well as respecting those of others. It is important to us that children feel comfortable to express themselves, while also recognising the diversity of perspectives within our school community. We encourage you to discuss the themes we explore further with your child at home.

Here are some suggested questions and prayers you may wish to use.

This week

Themes:
Jesus’ first miracle at the wedding; John’s vision of Heaven as a wedding feast.

Questions:
Have you ever been to a wedding? What was/were the best bit(s)?

Why do you think that John describes heaven as a wedding feast?

Do you wonder if there is something more than this life?

Challenge:
Find one thing each day this week that gives you joy.

Prayer:
Father God, help us to make this world a bit more like heaven on earth. Help us to show kindness to everyone and to find joy in our days. Amen

Next week

Themes:

Jesus’ uniqueness seen in his powerful teaching and authority over evil; awe and wonder at the creation.

Questions:

What have you seen in nature that makes you go “Wow”?

Have you ever known God’s unexpected provision?

Have you ever looked at the world and wondered whether there was a Creator?

Challenge:

Spend a few minutes looking at the natural world. You could look up at the night sky or the clouds or carefully look at the bark on a tree or a leaf. Be still and spend time looking really closely.

Prayer:

Father God, thank you for your wonderful world. Thank you for the sun, the stars, the beauty of all around us. Help us to look after the world you have made, Amen

Over the course of this half term, the Clergy are also exploring the story of Jonah with the children. This provides valuable lessons that can help them develop a deeper understanding of responsibility, forgiveness, and courage.

Garden - Team Work

The children worked incredibly hard together to build a structure that will create a new Wildlife Hotel. They shared ideas and showed great resilience when things didn’t go as they’d planned.  Well done to all the children who worked in the garden today!

Reception's Science Cupcakes

This week Reception learnt about ‘what happens when you mix it?’ in their Science lesson. The children then had a go at mixing their own ingredients to make cupcakes, which they very much enjoyed eating afterwards!

Year 1's Vision Day

This week, Year 1 took part in our school’s Vision Day to coincide with the Feast of St Paul. We particularly wanted to focus on our vision statement ‘…shine like stars to make the World a better place’. Year 1 looked at the 10 commandments and then thought of their own rules to reflect on how they can help the world to be a better place.

Year 2's Seed Diaries

Year 2 started their new Science unit on ‘Growing Seeds and Bulbs’ three weeks ago. On Wednesday, the children observed how their seeds had developed and made a record in their seed diaries. The children will record the ‘germination’ process over the next few weeks.

Year 4's Recycling Lessons

In English, Year 4 have been learning all about the Gambian story, One Plastic Bag. It shows the work of the courageous Isatou Ceesay and how she began a major recycling movement in Gambia. Isatou uses discarded plastic bags to make purses. Inspired by Isatou, we came up with different ideas that we could make from plastic bags, and decided that we would make friendship bracelets.

As part of our Vision Day, Year 5 were discussing why Anglican churches have different styles of worship.  Mr Hammer came in to speak to us about worship in his church and answer some of our questions.
