Leavers

We are very, very sad to say goodbye to Mrs Tippett-Nestor, who will be retiring after a phenomenal 27 years at St Paul’s. Michelle’s breadth of knowledge, especially her development of maths teaching throughout the school, and her incredible artistic talent, will be sorely missed, and I would like to thank her personally as both a colleague and friend, for all she has given to our school community.

We are also very sad to say goodbye to both Miss Holland, who is moving to what sounds like a wonderful new life in France, and Ms Davies, who will be travelling around South America. We wish them both the very best for their new adventures.

Goodbye to our Year 6 leavers

The last week of the summer term belongs to our Year 6 children. The Year 6 Leavers’ Service at church will be held tonight, for which I’d like to thank Fr Daniel, Fr Pete, Mrs Smith and all the year 6 staff in advance as this service is always so lovely. Tomorrow will be the final Year 6 Leavers’ Assembly, thank you to the staff who worked so hard to make sure these last events go well.

These occasions are often sad and emotional; however, they are primarily a time for joy and celebration as we reflect on the journey of our pupils while at primary school and to also look forward towards the journey that they are all about to embark upon as they move into their new secondary schools.

Our Year 6 group this year have been wonderful; not just in their academic achievements but in the progress they have demonstrated around our core values of Love, Forgiveness, Faith, Friendship, Hope and Peace. They are a credit to themselves, their families and our school and I would like to wish each of them every success in the future. We will miss you all.

Lost property

Lost property is available for viewing until the end of term in the entrance hall. Please check the uniform we have if your child has lost something.

Well done!

Talia received an award this week from Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL) a charitable social enterprise.

She was selected by GLL Sports Foundation for the second year running as the youngest of Enfield’s 2024 sponsored young athletes.

The award is for her achievements in Synchronised Ice Skating and Figure Skating. It is representative of her dedication to the sport and hard work.

Thank you

Thank you to the group of girls in Year 4; Ruby, Brooke, Lottie, Ellie, Jess, Anna, Connie and Evie who raised over £200 for the North London Hospice by organising a cake sale. What a fantastic effort! Remember that donations to this very worthwhile cause can be made through our JustGiving page.

FOSPS

Thank you to all of the FOSPS, especially the executive committee who have worked tirelessly to fundraise over this academic year. Without their donations the school would not be able to purchase the added extras which all of the children benefit from. We really appreciate the time, dedication and effort they give to make each event such a success and so much fun for all.

School Street

Thank you to those parents who have helped cover the school street this year. We are still in need of new help from September. Without this help there is a real risk that the road will have to be open to vehicles again. Please let Mrs Crouch know if you are able to help. Children are able to wait in the office if one of their parents are covering the street.

Edible garden

Thank you so much to Mrs Naylor, Mrs Groves, Mrs Taylor and Mrs Harbott who have worked so hard to make our edible garden such a wonderful calm area. We really need some more volunteers to keep the garden going in September. Please let the office know if you are able to help.

Our water hole has been decorated with the lovely painted rocks that the Year 5 children create during Diversity week.

Collective Worship

This half term, the clergy are highlighting a variety of people who lived out the schools’ theologically rooted Christian vision to ‘…shine like stars to make the world a better place.’ The final worship in this series was led by Jeff Hammer and was all about the inspirational life of Eric Liddle.

This was followed today by a whole school Collective Worship led by some of the collective worship committee exploring the theme of courage linked to Bible the story of Daniel in the lions’ den and further developing the idea of children as agents of change and courageous advocacy.

In addition, we have been following the London Diocesan Board of Schools cycle of Collective worship. Here are some suggested questions and prayers from them which you may wish to use with your children at home.

This week

Themes:

  • Personal cost to those who speak God’s truth
  • Standing up for what is right

Questions:
When have your friends helped you in times of need?

Have you ever stood up for someone else when they needed your help?

Challenge:
Try to go the whole week without telling a lie (or half-truth).

Prayer:
(a prayer of St Ignatius of Loyola)

Teach us, good Lord,

To serve you as you deserve;

To give and not to count the cost;

To fight and not to heed the wounds;

To toil and not to seek for rest;

To labour and not to ask for any reward,

Save that of knowing that we do your will.

Amen.

Next week

Themes:

  • God as shepherd
  • The shepherd as a model leader.

Questions:

When have you felt compassion for someone?

What makes a good leader?

What makes a bad leader?

How can you be a good shepherd to others?

Challenge:

Think of three ways you could show compassion to others.

Prayer:

Lord, thank you that you love me and care for me. Help me to love others too, even when it is hard. Amen

Collective Worship Committee News

Last week was a busy week for the Committee. Franklin and Tilly, ably assisted by Andrea, Lara, Matilda and Florence, led the whole school in worship on Friday morning. The theme was courageous advocacy linked to the story of Daniel in the Lions’ den.

Other members of the committee recorded a podcast discussing their thoughts on this half term’s value – Peace. You can listen to this and other podcasts from the link on our website. https://www.st-pauls.enfield.sch.uk/page/?title=The+St+Paul%27s+Podcast&pid=99 or through the Children section on the website.

Summer Reading Challenge

What is the Summer Reading Challenge?

The Summer Reading Challenge encourages children to keep reading during the school summer holidays – and to enjoy reading anything they like! Children aged 4-11 are invited to set a reading goal and collect rewards for their reading. It’s completely FREE to take part.

Why should my child sign up?

  • They will be better prepared to return to school in the autumn.

  • Library staff are on hand to offer support and book recommendations.

How can my child take part? (Library or Online)

GoFundMe

Our heartfelt thanks to all those who have contributed to the two families who have lost their homes in the recent fire. The families have written a lovely message in response which we thought we should share with you.

Dear all,

I hope this message finds you all well. On behalf of both families, words cannot fully express the depth of gratitude we feel for the incredible support and kindness you have shown us during this incredibly difficult time. Losing our homes to the fire has been a devastating experience, but your generosity and heartfelt messages have been a beacon of hope and comfort.

Please know that your kindness has made a significant impact on our lives, and we are immensely grateful to be part of such a caring and supportive community. We are touched by the solidarity and generosity shown by each and every one of you.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing by us and for being there when we needed it most. We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful community.

With heartfelt thanks,

The GoFundMe page is still open if you'd still like to donate.

Reception's visit to Whipsnade Zoo

Reception had a fantastic time on their trip to Whipsnade Zoo. They were able to see a huge range of animals such as elephants, camels, rhinos, giraffes, lemurs and chimpanzees. They took part in an educational workshop about life cycles and then visited the butterfly house to spot the 4 stages of a butterfly’s life cycle. The children very much enjoyed the train ride too where they could spot even more animals from around the zoo.

Year 1 D&T - Healthy Smoothies

As part of our D&T unit, ‘Healthy Smoothies’, Year 1 researched where and how different fruit and vegetables grow. They then tasted, planned, made and evaluated their smoothies. The children really enjoyed these lessons and made delicious healthy drinks!

Year 1 and 2 - Postcards

Last week for homework, Year 2 were asked to write postcards about all the parts of Year 2 they have enjoyed this year. The children produced fantastic post cards and read them to Year 1 on the field on Thursday. Year 1 were also encouraged to ask any questions about Year 2 to our current year 2 pupils. Year 2 loved being able to tell Year 1 all the things to look forward to!
