Summer Uniform

Next term, children are able to wear summer uniform. All relevant information regarding school uniform can be found on the school website. Please ensure your child has a coat at school each day.

Dance Festival

Congratulations to all the Year 5 and 1 pupils who took part in the Enfield Dance Festival last week. They performed really well and did the school proud! It was wonderful to see all the smiling faces as they performed. A big thank you to Mrs Payne, Mrs Hewitt, Mrs Thomas and Mrs Milios for all their time and hard work in making the dance such a success.

Polling day

On Thursday 7 May the school will be closed as it is used as a polling station for the local council elections.

Holiday Absence

We have recently noticed an increase in pupil absences towards the end of term. We understand that there are occasions when children may be unwell. However, we also know of cases where children have gone on holiday without the school being informed.

We would like to remind parents and carers that schools are required to follow national regulations regarding leave of absence during term time. Holidays can only be authorised in truly exceptional circumstances, so most requests for leave during term time are unlikely to be approved.

It is also important to be aware that taking a child out of school without prior authorisation could lead to the Local Authority issuing a Fixed Penalty Notice once a certain number of learning sessions have been missed.

Further information can be found using the link below:

Thank you for your support in this matter.

Reception

Reception really enjoyed their trip to Capel Manor this week. In their workshops, they explored different spring plant life and learnt about how different mini-beasts interact with the plants. They also went to the mini zoo and saw a waterfall. What a fantastic day!

Year 1

RE – The Easter Story

In RE this half term, Year 1 have been exploring the big question…

Why is Easter the most important festival for Christians?

The children have been learning about 4 important events in the Easter story:

  • Palm Sunday
  • The Last Supper
  • Good Friday
  • Easter Sunday

This week, they were given the opportunity to recall and retell the events of Easter Sunday in our school garden. The children gathered stones to create a tomb, fallen flowers and leaves and sticks to make crosses to create their own Easter gardens. What a great way to learn and remember that Easter Sunday teaches us that Jesus rose from the dead so that humankind could be rescued/saved (salvation) and be friends with God again.

Year 2

Great Fire of London Workshops

Our Year 2 pupils stepped back in time to 1666, as they took part in an exciting Great Fire of London drama workshop. Through interactive storytelling, role-play and imaginative activities, the children explored how the fire started, how it spread, and how Londoners responded to this historic event. They particularly enjoyed creating tableaus (freeze frames) using their bodies and gestures to convey a range of emotions and feelings linked to the Plague and the outbreak of the fire.

Year 3

Last week, Year 3 enjoyed a fantastic trip to Kew Gardens. We travelled by train, which was an exciting start to the day, before exploring the beautiful gardens together. The children particularly enjoyed visiting the Temperate House, where they saw a wide variety of fascinating plants from around the world. We were quite relieved to get outside and cool down afterwards.

Next, we had a lovely picnic in the sunshine, giving everyone a chance to relax and spend time with friends. In the afternoon, the class took part in an Art in Nature workshop, where they created their own artwork inspired by the natural environment around them. The children represented the school brilliantly and showed great curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the day.

Year 4

Year 4 have been working incredibly hard in Science, exploring the fascinating world of the digestive system. To showcase their new learning, the children created their own podcasts, confidently explaining the journey food takes through the human body. It has been wonderful to see their creativity and understanding come to life!

Children gathered around an iPad listening to their podcast ready to make edits.

Year 5

Ancient Greek Pottery

Year 5 have been enjoying an exciting cross-curricular project combining Art, English and History through the study of Ancient Greek pottery. The children explored the different types of Greek pots, their purposes, and how they were traditionally made.

Using this knowledge, they designed their own pots inspired by authentic Greek styles. They then used clay to create coil pots, carefully blending and smoothing the surface before adding intricate details. Their designs included elements such as Greek myths, traditional patterns and symbolic imagery.

The pots will now be bisque fired in our kiln, and the next stage will be glazing them to create either red-figure or black-figure designs, before a second firing. We are very excited to see the finished results of their fantastic work!
