Butterfly Art Exhibition – School Fundraising for the North London Hospice

North London Hospice is hosting a special event to honour and remember loved ones. Up to 500 beautifully crafted butterflies will be displayed in the peaceful gardens of West Lodge Park from 6th to 7th June.

As part of this meaningful event, St Paul’s School will be fundraising to sponsor one of the butterflies in support of the incredible work carried out by North London Hospice. If you would like to contribute, donations can be made via your ParentPay account by Friday 22nd May.

To link with this event, the school would also like to create a butterfly-themed art exhibition for Open Day. Children are invited to use their imagination and creativity to design their own butterfly artwork through drawing, painting, or collage. Please send all artwork into school by Friday 5th June.

This theme also provides a wonderful opportunity for children to learn more about butterflies and their importance in nature. As vital pollinators, butterflies play an essential role in supporting biodiversity and maintaining healthy ecosystems, helping to inspire meaningful conversations about the natural world.

Families can still donate for a butterfly in memory of a loved one. More details and an order form can be found on the North London Hospice website using this link:

Thank you

Reception

In Reception, we have been reading the book ‘The Night Pirates’ by Peter Harris and Deborah Allwright and have done a range of writing and art activities linked to this. Here are some of our pirate hats and treasure chests.

Year 1

In Year 1, the children have been reading the book ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers. They have been exploring vocabulary, identifying adjectives and similes in the text.

Last week they carefully planned to write their own short stories featuring a seagull.

Was the seagull lost or found?

The children were very proud of their stories

Year 2

As part of our history learning, Year 2 have been writing diary entries in the role of Florence Nightingale. Using their knowledge of diary writing, the children imagined what it would have been like to care for soldiers during the Crimean War. They wrote in the first person, describing long days in the hospital, the importance of cleanliness and the challenges Florence faced as she worked to improve conditions.

The pupils worked hard to include time connectives, descriptive language, and personal reflections to bring their diary entries to life. It has been wonderful to see their confidence in writing continue to grow while exploring such an important historical figure.

Year 3

Year 3 have had an active few weeks at the start of this term. Children took part in the mini-marathon at school, with most of the children running at least 2 miles around the track. We then had some football matches against Forty Hill where the children played very well. Finally the girls were lucky enough to take part in a taster cricket session delivered by Winchmore Hill Cricket Club.

Year 4

Year 4 had a fantastic time celebrating Times Table Rock Stars Day by dressing up as their TTRS avatars and rock stars! Throughout the day, the children practised their times tables through a range of interactive games and activities, working together to solve multiplication problems and challenges. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm, teamwork and determination on display.

Both 4M and 4W have also been enjoying taking part in a TTRS Battle against each other. The competition remains incredibly close, and we are all excited to see which class will be crowned the winners!

Year 6

Year 6 took part in a mini-marathon, challenging themselves to run and complete an impressive 2 miles. Everyone showed great determination, resilience and teamwork as they pushed themselves to reach the finish line.
