Reminders

As we continue to experience hot weather, I would like to remind parents to ensure your child has sun cream applied in the morning, brings a cap to school, and has a named water bottle with them.

Lateness

We have noticed the same children repeatedly arriving and being collected late several times a week. From next week, we will be speaking to individual parents reminding them of the school’s expectations set out in the home/school agreement. Children who are regularly late miss the start of lessons and this can lead to lost learning.

Annual Reports/Open Afternoon

On Friday 10th July we will be providing parents with their child(ren)’s annual report(s). These reports will set out each child’s academic progress and attainment throughout the school year.

Between 3.45pm and 5.15pm on Tuesday 14 July, school will be open for you to view your child’s work and visit classrooms. This will also be an opportunity for parents/carers to discuss end of year reports with current class teachers.

Staffing

Today we say goodbye to Miss Nicolaou, who has been supporting the children in Reception, as well as those who attend Breakfast Club and Extra Club.

We would like to say a huge thank you to her for all of her hard work, care and dedication during her time with us. She has built lovely relationships with the children and has been a valued member of our school community.

As she moves on to an exciting new career, we would like to wish her every success and happiness for the future.

New Trim Trail Installation

Work will begin on a new trim trail on Monday. The new equipment will be added to the existing climbing frame area, providing an exciting new addition to our playground.

While the work is taking place, there will only be one gate open for access to the playground during both the morning and afternoon drop-off and collection times. The work is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete.

During this period, please ensure that scooters and bikes are not brought into or left at school.

We would like to say a huge thank you to FOSPS for funding this fantastic new equipment. We are all very excited to see it completed and look forward to the children enjoying the new trim trail!

Life in the Garden

The hot weather we had over half term had a big impact on our garden. Our poppies were looking very nice and lush, but now they have sadly dried out. Thanks to everybody buying from our garden sale and donations from the FOSPS, we were able to buy new seeds and plug plants such as strawberries.

After half term, we planted some white cosmos and sunflowers which have sprouted. Someone in Year 1 planted some carrots and they look wonderful.

FUTURE PLANS FOR THE GARDEN

We are hoping to make a fairy garden and put some beautiful plants in it, pretty stones and some fairy figurines.

We would like to make some lavender pouches in the summer using our sewing skills and some felt.

We have recently requested some mulch or bark to cover our flower beds over the summer holidays to help keep in the moisture.

We would like to remind everybody to be kind to the garden by not stepping on the garden beds.

We have also planted some alliums, and they have grown wonderfully.

That’s all from this week's addition to Life in the Garden.

Reception

To celebrate World Oceans Day, RKP learnt about the importance of our oceans and how they support life on Earth. The children explored ways to help protect marine environments and discussed the animals that live in our oceans. They then expressed their learning through creative artwork and writing, sharing their thoughts and ideas about caring for the oceans and keeping them healthy for future generations.

Creating backgrounds for our ocean art using sponges

Making our own coral reefs with play-doh and pasta!

Small world ocean role-play

Year 1

In our cooking and nutrition unit this half term, the children will be tasting and selecting fruit and vegetables to create a smoothie to meet a design brief. This week they started by carrying out some research. What did they already know? Could they name a fruit? What is the difference between a fruit and a vegetable?

They were busy sorting fruit and vegetables and identifying seeds.

Year 2

Year 2 have been inspired by The Bear and the Piano by David Litchfield. After exploring the story, the children used their creativity and imagination to write their own versions, developing new characters, settings and adventures. They worked hard to include exciting vocabulary, descriptive language and engaging story openings and endings. We have been so impressed by their enthusiasm, storytelling skills and the confidence they have shown as young authors. Well done, Year 2!

Year 3

Maths – Telling the Time

In Maths, we have been learning how to tell the time using both analogue and digital clocks. The children have been practising reading o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to times, as well as understanding the difference between a.m. and p.m. We have enjoyed using clocks and real-life examples to help develop confidence in telling the time throughout the day.

Year 4

To develop their logical reasoning skills this week, Year 4 tackled an exciting problem-solving challenge in small groups. Using 27 small cubes in nine different colours, they explored whether it was possible to build a 3 × 3 × 3 cube so that every face contained one of each colour. The children tested ideas, looked for patterns, and explained why some arrangements worked and others did not. This engaging activity encouraged teamwork, perseverance, and mathematical reasoning.

Year 6

Year 6 Junior Citizenship Visit

Year 6 pupils visited the Enfield Junior Citizenship Scheme – designed to equip Year 6 pupils with vital life skills as they prepare for the transition to secondary school and greater personal independence. Talks and activities focused on:

Fire Safety in The Home

Bus Safety, Underground Safety, Active Travel & Journey Planning

Online Safety, Personal Safety Messages

Health & Wellbeing, Vaping, Smoking, Harmful Substances

Sporting Achievements

Some children from KS2 represented St Paul’s at the Borough Athletics competition at Lee Valley on Wednesday. They were all excellent, winning the overall team prize. We had lots of individual winners too. A huge well done to all involved.

The boys’ football team got to the semi-final of the Fursman Cup, a competition entered by all the primary schools in Enfield. Unfortunately, we lost to Grange Park, but they all did really well, getting to the final 4, beating some tough teams on the way.

Last week, some Year 5 children went to the Tottenham training ground to take part in a football session. They were all fantastic, winning team of the day.
