The Archbishop of Canterbury’s Young Leaders Award is a Church of England programme that encourages young people to develop leadership through service, reflection, and social action. It supports students in identifying issues in their communities and beyond, and then taking practical steps to address them while reflecting on the impact of their actions.

Our Young Leaders have been meeting weekly to take part in the programme and complete a range of activities designed to help them think about leadership, responsibility, and service. Through discussion, reflection, and action-based tasks, they have been exploring how they can make a positive difference both locally and globally.

The programme aims to nurture compassion, confidence, and a sense of responsibility, empowering young people to put their values into action and contribute meaningfully to the world around them.

This year, we are raising funds for YUVA, an Indian charity that supports families living in urban slum communities by improving access to housing, sanitation, education, and essential services.

Our decision to support YUVA was inspired by one of our Archbishop's Young Leaders, who visited India during the Easter holidays and spent time in a local slum community. After sharing their experiences with fellow Young Leaders, they were moved by the challenges faced by many families and felt inspired to make a difference.

Together, we have decided to take action through a sponsored walk or run, during school time, raising money to support YUVA's vital work and help improve the lives of some of the most vulnerable communities in India. This will take place in September.

Reception 

Whipsnade Zoo

Last week, Reception had a fantastic day on our trip to Whipsnade Zoo. Despite the very warm weather, the children coped incredibly well with the heat and showed great resilience throughout the day. They listened carefully to instructions, behaved exceptionally well, and were wonderful ambassadors for our school.

The children loved discovering a wide variety of animals, including chimpanzees, ostriches, rhinos, giraffes, meerkats, waterbuck, deer, flamingos, elephants, camels, and the magnificent Victoria crowned pigeons. A particular favourite was the Butterfly House, where they enjoyed watching colourful butterflies fluttering all around them. They also had the opportunity to visit the Aquarium and explore the fascinating underwater world.

Year 1

Walton-on-the-Naze

Year 1 had a fantastic day at Walton-on-the-Naze as part of our seaside topic! The children enjoyed exploring the beach, building impressive sandcastles and paddling in the sea. It was wonderful to see their excitement as they experienced the seaside together and created lots of happy memories. Throughout the day, the children were exceptionally well behaved and represented St Paul's beautifully with their excellent manners and positive attitudes. We were incredibly proud of them all and had a truly memorable day!

Year 2

Our Year 2 children have been busy developing their sewing skills by designing and creating their own felt pouches. They carefully planned their designs before learning how to use a running stitch to join the felt pieces together. This project helped the children develop patience, precision and fine motor skills while exploring the design process from planning to making. We are incredibly proud of their creativity, perseverance and the fantastic finished pouches they produced!

Year 3

This week, Year 3 welcomed the Year 2 children into their new classrooms. The children wrote thoughtful letters, sharing all about the exciting learning, opportunities, and fun they can look forward to in Year 3. They also enjoyed a picnic with their new teachers, giving everyone a chance to get to know one another and helping the children feel excited and confident about their move to Year 3.

Year 5

The Tempest

As part of our end-of-unit work on Shakespeare’s The Tempest, Year 5 took part in an exciting drama workshop delivered by West End in Schools. Through a range of energetic games, creative activities and role-play, the children explored the play’s characters, themes and key moments. They worked in pairs and groups to act out different scenes featuring characters such as Prospero, Miranda, Ariel, Caliban and Ferdinand, bringing Shakespeare’s story to life with fantastic enthusiasm and confidence.
