Children's Mental Health Week

This week is Children’s Mental Health Week. All across the school, the children heard a special story about superpowers that we can use to help others. The classes discussed what mental health means to them. This included how it is the way we think and feel about ourselves and the world around us. It affects how we cope with life's challenges and stresses. Each year groups’ story included a superpower to help others when they’re feeling down, including:

Reception/Year 1: kindness
Year 2: patience
Year 3: curiosity
Year 4: fun
Year 5: courage
Year 6: teamwork

The classes talked about ways to keep our minds healthy and how this is just as important as keeping our bodies healthy. The children had some wonderful, insightful ideas.

Industrial Action

I would like to thank you for your understanding during the industrial action that took place last Wednesday. The next date that industrial action is scheduled to take place is Thursday 2nd March. It is possible that the strike will be called off, however, if it looks like it is going ahead, further details will be given nearer the time.

Parking

Thank you to those parents who park with consideration for our neighbours and wider community. Please can I ask again that parents/carers think of others when parking near school and refrain from parking on double yellow lines and over local residents drive ways. We would appreciate parents not using the road leading up to the back gate to make u turns or park when dropping their child at school.

Safer Internet Day

Safer Internet Day took place this week on the 7 February. It has become a landmark event in the online safety calendar. From cyberbullying to social networking to digital identity, each year Safer Internet Day aims to raise awareness of emerging online issues and current concerns.

This year's theme is: Want to talk about it? Making space for conversations about life online.

Vikings!

Year Four have been continuing to enjoy their History unit on the Vikings. We have been exploring whether or not the Viking's fierce reputation is a fair one. Last week the children discussed when they think the Vikings had the most power. They used a 'living graph' to plot events both chronologically and in terms of how much power the Vikings had. This week the children assessed the validity of the Viking's bad reputation using primary sources. They discovered that the Vikings were settlers as well as raiders.
