Sports days

KS1 sport day will take place next Tuesday 20 June at 10am, KS2 sports day will then take place in the afternoon with a start time of 1.30pm. Parents and family members are welcome to attend and are encouraged to dress in their child’s house colour if they so wish.

Please stay behind the corden and do not congregate at the finish line to enable the event to run smoothly.

Any help putting away the chairs after the event would be much appreciated.

Open hour

The school will be open to parents and children on Monday 17 July from 3.45-4.45pm. This is an opportunity for the children to share their work with parents and for parents to discuss their child’s end of year report with their child’s class teacher should they so wish.

Reception's maths fun

Reception have been learning about doubling in maths. The children very much enjoyed icing their biscuits and using the smarties to create some doubling pairs such as 3 and 3 or 4 and 4. This prompted good discussion using mathematical vocabulary and demonstrated their understanding. They enjoyed tasting them even more!

Year 1's aliens

In Year 1, for creative writing, the children have written their own Alien stories which they have made into books. They have designed a front cover, title and a blurb. Like all good stories they included a problem and a resolution as well as a description of their alien characters.

Year 2's felt making workshop

As part of our art unit, year 2 had the pleasure of taking part in a Felt Making workshop. The children absolutely loved the process and enjoyed getting a bit messy! They were able to experiment with a different textile and learn a new skill.

Year 5's Greek pots

As part of our art lessons, we have made our own terracotta vessels, in the style of the Greek ones we have learnt about.  We used the coil method to make them and had to be careful when adding handles.

Gardening Club

On Friday 23rd June, the gardening club will be selling some plants (including herbs) which they have nurtured from cuttings. They will be available at the end of the school day on Friday on the Parents’ Waiting area by the front gate. All money received will allow us to buy resources for next year.

PSHE – lessons

This half term all classes will be discussing the NSPCC’s Underwear Rule in our PSHE lessons. During these discussions we will aim to teach our pupils the following important safety skills without giving explicit information or telling scary stories. We will be teaching our pupils the NSPCC’s Underwear Rule, using the ‘PANTS’ acrostic, which is like a green cross code for staying safe from sexual abuse. PANTS stands for:

  •  Privates are private
  •  Always remember your body belongs to you
  • No means no
  • Talk about secrets that upset you
  • Speak up, someone can help

The lessons will introduce a range of ideas, all delivered in a way that’s fully age appropriate. These include:

  • "appropriate” and “inappropriate” touching
  • your child’s right to say no to things that make them feel upset or uncomfortable
  • naming parts of the body
  • who your child can turn to if they ever feel upset or worried.

If you would like to know more about the NSPCC’s campaign and see how you can help keep your children safe in partnership with your child’s school, more information can be found at nspcc.org.uk/underwearrule.

If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to speak to your child’s class teacher in the first instance.

Enfield Borough Athletics Competition

Yesterday, a team of athletes from Years 3-6 competed in the Enfield Borough Athletics Competition at Lee Valley Athletics Centre. Our team performed brilliantly coming 1st in 9 of the events. Overall, our St. Paul’s team won the competition by a staggering 12 points ahead of the 14 other schools taking part. Congratulations to all who competed, we are so proud of you all!

Cricket Engagement Day

This week pupils in Years 2-6 participated in a cricket session led by a coach from Middlesex Cricket. The children enjoyed participating in some cricket drills and games. We hope this has inspired some of our pupils to go along to their local cricket club!

Nits

To avoid spreading nits and to maintain the high standards expected of our children's appearance please could you ensure that, if your child's hair is longer than collar-length, it should be tied up whilst at school.

Year 6 Free School Meals

For parents of children who currently receive free school meals in Year 6, who will transfer to secondary school in September 2023:

Please follow the guidance below regarding free school meals at secondary transfer:

In most cases, if your child is transferring to a secondary school in Enfield their free school meal entitlement will automatically transfer to your accepted secondary school in September 2023, you do not have to make a new application for free school meals for secondary transfer.

However, there are a few secondary schools in Enfield who have their own administration process for free school meals, they are:

Aim North London

Ark John Keats

Oasis Academy Enfield

Oasis Academy Hadley

Wren Academy Enfield

If you have accepted a secondary school place at one of the above schools.  To ensure your child receives their continued free school meal entitlement, please contact the school directly for advice on their process.

If you have accepted a secondary school place for your child in one of the neighbouring Boroughs. For example:  Barnet, Cheshunt, Haringey etc. - to ensure your child receives their continued free school meal entitlement, please contact the school or the Local Authority where the school is located for advice on their process.

When your child starts their new school in September 2023, if they do not receive their free school meal entitlement, please speak to school as early in the term as possible to let them know your child received free school meals at primary school and ask them to investigate this for you.
