School uniform

There are a number of children who are wearing boots or trainers with coloured logos and soles to school. Please may I remind you that children should only wear plain black shoes.

Annual Services

Both the KS1 and KS2 services take place on 16 May at St Paul’s Church. The KS1 service will start at 2.30pm and parents/carers are welcome to join us. If you are not able to attend the service, please pick your child up from church at approximately 3.00pm.

The KS2 service will take place at 6.00pm. Parents are expected to stay for the service as children will sit with the adult who brings them to church. Younger siblings are welcome to attend. The service should be finished by 7.00pm.

Collective Worship

We encourage you to discuss the themes we explore further with your child at home.

Here are some suggested questions and prayers you may wish to use.

Questions:
Who do you feel loved by?

How do you show love to others?

Who do you know who needs to know that you love and care for them?

Challenge:
Show someone you love them through sacrificing time that would usually be spent on yourself (such as giving up time on a show you watch or time you would usually spend on your phone) to do something kind or helpful for them.

Prayer:
Father God, thank you for all the people who give their lives to serve others, doctors, nurses, carers, firefighters and teachers. I pray that you will help me to think of the needs of others and help me care selflessly too. Amen

UK Junior Maths Challenge - Success 2024

On Thursday April 25th, 40 pupils sat the Maths Challenge.

Pupils at St Paul’s achieved 1 Gold, 11 Silver and 16 Bronze in this year’s UKMT Junior Maths Challenge.

Over 250,000 pupils from across the UK sat the challenge with roughly the top 6% receiving gold certificates, the next 13% silver and 21% bronze.

We are very proud of all the children who took part - the Junior Maths Challenge is run by the UK Mathematics Trust and is aimed at those in Years 7 and 8!

Congratulations to Emiliana!

Emiliana competed for her gymnastics club (Perform Better) on 27 April 2024 in the GFA London Gymnastics Competition and won Gold in her level.  What an amazing achievement Emiliana, well done!

North London’s Big Fun Art Adventure

A reminder that the North London Hospice has partnered with Wild in Art to create a trail of sculptures through North London. Owls were chosen for the sculptures because they represent the passing on of knowledge and stories. As a school we will be painting one of these sculptures which families will be able to visit during the summer holidays. Eventually our sculpture will return to school to stay for good!

The children planted sweet peas, created bug hotels and orchestrated a wonderful musical medley.

Yesterday, children from Year 5 planted an Amelanchia tree in the quadrangle. It replaces the St Paul’s 150-year anniversary tree that sadly died earlier this year.  We hope the tree will grow big and strong and provide shade during summers to come.

Enfield Grammar School - Applications under the Music and/or Sport Criteria for entry in September 2025

If parents/carers of any Year 5 boys are wishing to apply to Enfield Grammar School under the Music and/or Sport Criteria for entry in September 2055 please note that the Supplementary Information Form is now available to be downloaded from their website. The form can be found here and the closing date for application forms to be returned to Enfield Grammar School is 4.00pm on Tuesday 8 October 2024.

Cultures week

‘Celebrating our Cultures’ week at St Paul’s was a great success. The children were exposed to a range of different activities to broaden their understanding of cultures around them. Thank you to all the parents who gave up their time coming into school to talk to the children about a range of subjects. The children looked amazing in their non-uniform on Friday. You will see in this newsletter the range of activities and learning which took place.

Reception

Reception very much enjoyed celebrating our Cultures week and were so busy learning so many things about a variety of background and cultures. They did a huge variety of activities such as creating pictures, trying new foods, listening to parent volunteers, trying on headscarves and Ghanaian kente cloth and even some Cuban dancing!

Year 1

What a fantastic Cultures week we had! 1M learned all about Cyprus and the Greek culture and 1NS learnt about Italy and the Italian culture. During the week, both classes enjoyed tasting traditional dishes from their chosen country.  

We also had Mrs Nakamura, Mrs Gheysari and Mr Stajic speak about their culture.

Year 2

During Cultures week, Year 2 took part in lots of different activities. We focussed on the country of China and the children learnt a dragon dance. Mrs Wilmer gave an educational talk as well as teaching a Chinese craft. They even got to try some traditional Chinese tea! The children also brought in foods that represent / are popular in their own culture. This was a fantastic part of our Friday. The children loved trying the different dishes. A big thank you again for bringing it all in!

Year 3

"Today we did a poster on Malaysia. It was so fun because there was so much to write and draw. Everyone looked amazing in their cultural outfits. We also went down to the hall for some dancing. I think it was Caribbean dancing. After that someone came to talk to us about Afro hair. It made me wish I had Afro hair! There was also a really fun game from Chile that we played called, Corre Corre, La Guaraca."

Year 4

Year 4 really enjoyed celebrating their cultures this week. The children were able to share traditions and celebrations, we ate pitta and challah breads and the children commented on how delicious they were.

Year 5

Year 5 have fully immersed themselves into Cultures week and have taken part in a Cultural Picnic, Mapping Activity and a Diversity Bingo game. We also went on a trip to the Gurdwara linked to our RE topic about Sikhism and learnt about how the community come together to support one another.

Here are some snippets from our written recounts:

“As I stepped off of the coach I saw the tall, beautiful Khanda flag waving around like it was saying hello to us. As we stepped into the Gurdwara we were told to take our shoes off and wear a head covering as a sign of respect.” by Matthew

“As we were led into the prayer hall I saw the beautiful one and only Guru Granth Sahib covered by a shimmering orange canopy to keep it protected,” by Sienna

“Once we were in the prayer hall we were told about the different Gurus and how the Guru Granth Sahib is 1430 pages long! After that, we entered the langar and they gave us a juice and a delicious biscuit because they believe that no one should worship on an empty stomach. Everyone is allowed to the langar to eat.” by Alexander.

Year 6

6D had a wonderful and informative visit from Maria, Evangelia’s mum. She spoke to the children about her home country Greece and shared facts about Greek culture including food, family, religion and philosophy. The children wrote their names in Greek and decorated these using mosaics. 

We ended the week with the two Year 6 classes getting together for some traditional Greek dancing and bazouki playing. A big shout out to Mario, Alexander and Elias in 6D for showing off their fantastic moves and to Theo in 6BT for playing the bazouki so brilliantly. Opa!
