Pageant

The pageant takes place on Saturday 15 June. Please note that all children are expected to attend. The starting time of the pageant has moved forward to 1.30pm and children need to be at school by 1.20pm at the very latest. More information to follow.

Bumped head letter

After half term, we will be sending letters home if your child bumps their head during the school day. You may also receive a phone call from a member of staff.

Hooped Earrings

The number of hooped earrings being worn to school has increased again. Please make sure our school uniform policy is adhered to.

Sun Cream

As the days get hotter please make sure that you apply sun cream to your child before the school day starts as our staff are not able to apply it during the day. Please do not send sun cream in to school with your child.

Polling Day

As you will be aware, a General Election has been called on 4 July 2024. The school will therefore be closed to staff and pupils on 4 July 2024 as it is used as a Polling Station.

The use of WhatsApp

We would like to remind all parents/carers of the following bullet point in the Home/School Agreement (which can be found in the School Information/Policies section of the website and as a Google Form, but is also copied below, and which all parents/carers and children have signed):

  • refrain from using social media (i.e. WhatsApp) as a platform to comment negatively about the school, staff, other parents and most importantly individual children directly or indirectly.

The school takes failure to abide by these rules extremely seriously.

Annual Services

Thank you to Father Pete and Father Simon for leading our Annual services last week. It was particularly pleasing to see how full St Pauls’ Church was for our KS2 service and to hear all about the outreach projects our children have been participating in. These projects reflect our school vision and how we want the children to ‘Shine like stars to make the world a better place’.

Young Epilepsy

A reminder that our retiring collection at the Annual services this year was for Young Epilepsy, a fantastic charity that works with children and young people with epilepsy to ensure their voices are heard and their rights are protected.

So far we have raised £100 and we would like to thank those of you who have already donated. If you would still like to donate, you can do so by clicking here. All donations go directly to Young Epilepsy.

Spring Flower Watercolour Painting Competition

Every year the whole school paint spring flowers using watercolours. The children use their artistic skills to paint their flowers which are then displayed in the entrance hall and around the school for us all to admire. It’s lovely to see the children’s interpretations of the flowers they observe and the development of their skills which include:

  • Experimenting with colour.
  • Using observational skills.
  • Becoming proficient in drawing and painting.
  • Developing techniques in shape, tone and form.
  • Improving their mastery of art and design techniques.

Congratulations go to:

Sing and Sign Event

The whole school was very lucky to take part in Enfield Music Service’s ‘Sing and Sign’ Event 2024. The event was led by the inspirational Paul Whittaker. Paul is a deaf musician who has worked with lots of prestigious orchestras and choirs across the country. We sang and signed ‘Just Sing’ from the Trolls movie. We had lots of fun making music together! Here are 1NS and 4L enjoying the event.

Collective Worship

At Saint Paul’s, we see our daily acts of collective worship as time for children and staff to come together and reflect on their own values and beliefs, as well as respecting those of others. It is important to us that children feel comfortable to express themselves, while also recognising the diversity of perspectives within our school community. We encourage you to discuss the themes we explore further with your child at home.

Here are some suggested questions and prayers you may wish to use.

This week

Themes:
The celebration of Pentecost (look at how Pentecost is celebrated by Christians around the world).

Questions:
Have you ever felt like you had lost hope? What happened?

Who was the last person to encourage you? What did they say or do to give you hope?

How can you bring hope to someone you know?

In what ways can the Holy Spirit help you to love and serve God?

Challenge:
Encourage someone you know this week.

Prayer:
Loving Father,

thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to encourage and strengthen all who ask. May we receive the Holy Spirit in our lives.

Amen

Next week

Themes:

God cares for you and sees you.

Valuing each person as God values them.

Questions:

Have you ever felt ignored? What happened? How did it make you feel?

Has anyone ever butted in when you were talking? What happened? How did you feel?

Have you ever butted in when someone else was talking? What happened? How did you feel? How do you think the other person felt?

Challenge:

Ask someone about their day. Really listen to what they are saying, ask them a question like, “tell me more about that”, so that they know you are really interested in what they are saying.

Prayer:

Father God,

thank you that every person is special to you. Thank you for seeing me and caring all about me. Help me to treat other people in the way that you care about me.

Amen.

Collective Worship Committee News

The last couple of weeks have been very busy for the Committee. Franklin, James, Anya and Sophia led the whole school in worship on the theme of the Ascension, friendship and saying goodbye. We also recorded and released the next episode of our podcast. In this episode, members of our Collective Worship Committee discuss the school value for this half term: Hope. It’s well worth a listen via our Spotify channel: https://open.spotify.com/show/6rJoLUs8tblMmSxZ8cgbT6?si=MBvBNmbWQV2BGhTEO3dJfA

Gardening News

Different year groups worked together to create another watering hole. The children have learnt how beneficial it is to have shallow water available for the wildlife that visit our garden.  We also have a solar-powered water fountain that creates a beautiful calming sound.

Yr 4 have been busy creating wonderful spaces for bugs.

One of our children has planted a runner bean which was grown from a bean.

May is Coeliac Awareness Month

1 in 100 people in the UK have coeliac disease, but only 36% are diagnosed. That leaves a staggering 500,000 people suffering with unexplained symptoms. The campaign for Coeliac Awareness Month 2024 aims to find those people and get them on the road to recovery.

More information can be found here: https://www.coeliac.org.uk/get-involved/awareness-month-2024/

The Little Recyclers

If you have any clothes for recycling please bring them into the school office for the collection on 7 June. Please note, The Little Recyclers will not accept school uniform.

Year 4 - Sewing

Year 4 have been sewing this week, as part of their design and technology unit. They made a book cover for their favourite book. They had to sew felt together, sew on a clasp and sew on buttons. It took a lot of hard work and resilience. Here are some of 4L’s incredible designs!

Year 5 - Living Things and Their Habitats

Year 5 have been learning about ‘Living things and their habitats’ in our science lessons.  We went out into the garden to learn about how we can grow plants without seeds.  We looked at three different types of propagation; soft wood cuttings, from runners and by dividing.
