Collective Worship

This half term, clergy led worships on Mondays are based on Parables. So far, the children have learnt about the Good Samaritan, the Prodigal Son and the Unforgiving Servant. The Clergy have been linking the teachings to the school vision and pupils’ lives.

Other collective worships which take place throughout the week are following the London Diocesan Board of Schools cycle of Collective worship based around themes from the Bible readings in Church each week. Here are some suggested questions and prayers which you may wish to use with your children at home.

Week beginning 11.11.24

Themes drawn from Hebrews 9:24-28 and Mark 1:14-20

  • Jesus as priest and sacrifice.
  • Repentance – putting right those things we are sorry about and starting afresh.
  • (Atonement, At-one-ment, the belief that people are separated from God by sin, atonement works to restore the relationship between people and God)

Questions:

When was the last time you said sorry? How did you feel before and after?

Have you ever had to say sorry and then try to put something right? What happened?

When was the last time you forgave someone who wronged you? Did you find it easy or difficult? Why?

Have you ever made a fresh start at something? What did you do?

If God offered you a fresh start would you accept?

Challenge:
Buy, make or draw a poppy this week. Red poppies are for remembrance and support families and service personnel who have been injured or suffered loss. White poppies are to support work for peace.

Prayer:
Lord God, we pray for peace in our world. May we be peacemakers in our communities. Thank you for the fresh start that you offer us. Amen.

Week Beginning 18.11.24

Themes drawn from Hebrews 10:11-14, 19-25 and Mark 13:1-8

  • Jesus’ death on the cross reconciled people to God.
  • Encouraging others to live well.
  • Hope in troubled times.

Questions:
Who encourages you to do good, to be the best version of you? What do they do or say?
Which troubles that you hear or see in the news worry you most?
Christians believe that one day God will restore things to how he originally intended. What would you look forwards to being made new?

Challenge:
Encourage someone this week to do good.
Talk to someone about your worries or fears.

Prayer:

Loving Father God, I bring before you the things that trouble me _______________. I thank you that I can trust you. Help me to show loving kindness to the people I meet this week. Amen

Week beginning 25.11.24

Themes drawn from Revelation 1:4b-8 and John 18:33-37

  • Jesus as king
  • Who or what influences/ rules you?

Questions:
Who or what influences you in:

•      The clothes you wear?

•      The food you eat?

•      The friends you have?

•      The music you listen to?

•      The way you behave?

Jesus spoke about reigning in people’s lives. Do you think your life would be any different if God reigned in your life? Why or why not? What would your life look like?

Challenge:
Name three qualities that you like about yourself.

Prayer:

Almighty God, I pray that I will make wise choices about who I choose to follow. Help me to be an influencer for good amongst my friends. Amen

Collective Worship Committee News

Members of the Collective worship committee joined the Parents’ prayer group last. They had written their own prayers to include in the meeting. They also offered up to God all of the prayers that had been placed in our new school prayer box. Here are the prayers the children wrote.

Prayer for Remembrance (Lottie year 5)

Dear Lord,

We thank those who gave up their lives for us during the World Wars just like Jesus who died on the cross for us. Because of their sacrifices we can live together freely in a safe, loving and diverse community.

Please Pray for all those still suffering from war throughout the World. Help us to bring Peace to the World and stop war.

Amen

Prayer for our school community (Issy year 5)

Dear Lord,

Thank you for our community where we can flourish as one family. Help us thrive and live out our school values. Help us to forgive each other as Jesus forgave Peter and follow His example to shine like stars in the World.

Please listen to the prayers that our school community have put in the Prayer box and grant comfort and hope to all those in need.

Please bring peace to our wonderful World.

Amen

Prayer for all those affected by the floods in Spain (Katie year 5)

Dear Lord,

We pray for help for the people in Barcelona and Valencia who have been affected by the recent floods. Open our eyes to see ways to help them. Look after all those working tirelessly to rescue and take care of those affected and help them in their work.

Help us to understand their grief from losing loved ones. Bring them comfort and protect them from further harm.

Amen

Congratulations

It's always a joy to celebrate the individual achievements of our pupils. A hearty congratulations to Dylan, who has secured a contract with Stevenage Football Club – an incredible accomplishment that speaks volumes about his talent and dedication.

News from the Governors

Firstly, a bumper "Thank You" to all parents and families who have contributed to the Maintenance Fund for St Paul's School.

This fund provides a really useful way in which the school can be kept up to standard. Recent examples of how the fund has been used are shown below :

The school CCTV security system has been completely renewed. The old system had been in place for 20 years and was showing its age. The new hi-tech system monitors the whole school.

The central heating boilers which serve the school have been replaced and are now much more efficient, particularly needed with the current cold weather.

The boys w/cs have been redesigned, replumbed and redecorated.

A major investment has been made in replacing the entire school telephone system. A new digital telephone system has been installed which runs over the internet.

A mosaic which reflects our vision and values has been designed and installed by the entrance of the school.

The mission of the Governors at St Paul's School is to ensure the safety, security and comfort for all the children in our care.

Roy Stanson

Treasurer

Sports news

It’s been a busy few weeks for the schools sports teams.

The boys football team were undefeated at the Tottenham Premier League rising star competition at Edmonton County.

The netball team took part in some matches, many playing competitive games for the first time. They came away with some wins after playing excellently.

The girls football team played against Grange Park on the school field.

The cross country team won another competition at Forty Hall. The girls finished first in the team race and the boys came second for a first overall for the school. We also had some runners representing Enfield at the London Youth Games. Sienna, Emma, Katie, Aston, Teddy and Dylan all did really well and should be proud of their achievements.

The tag rugby team finished second in the borough cross country competition at Enfield Ignatians. They played some great rugby and were so close to winning overall.

Year 4 also went to Raglan to take part in some football matches.

There are lots more competitions and matches coming up so hopefully lots more children will have opportunities to play.

Reception - Plants

This week, reception learnt about the different parts of a plant and the role that each part has. The children drew their own pictures of a plant and worked on their letter formation by labelling each part, using some word banks to help them. They also enjoyed creating some flower collages using a range of different materials and mediums.

Year 1 - Anti-bullying workshop

The children in year 1 enjoyed an engaging and interactive anti-bullying workshop. They listened to Tommy’s story and heard how making fun of someone can make them feel sad. The children agreed that everyone is different and unique and sang the ‘I like me’ song. They had to imagine putting on a super suit that had two super powers: talking and kindness. We use talking to tell people how we feel and also to talk to people who are feeling sad. The children thought of examples of kindness, such as, letting someone go first and helping someone up.

The children then listened to Sally’s story and about how she felt when she heard people talking about her. The children learned to use another super power - calm thinking - when they are feeling angry and another power – bravery – to ask people to stop talking about others and explain how it makes them feel.

Year 2 - Music Workshop

This week, Year 2 participated in a music workshop where they were able to make their own piano using a ruler. The children had lots of fun experimenting with the different notes and learning all about music.

Year 6 - Anti-Bullying Week

Last week was ‘Anti- Bullying Week’. We designed and created posters to represent this year’s theme-‘Choose Respect’. We took part in an engaging anti- bullying workshop, which focused on the different parts people can play in a bullying scenario, such as the target/victim, the instigator, the reinforcer and the bystander.  We also learnt about the importance and power of using non-verbal cues to ensure we don’t pass judgement when people talk about their experiences.

As well as this, we got together with year 3 to make friendship bracelets. It was such a nice chance to get to know one another!
