Attendance and punctuality

We continue to have a whole school focus on attendance and punctuality.

Please refrain from booking any holidays during term time as they will have to be recorded as unauthorised. Please make sure children are in school by 8.55am every day.

Admissions

Please note that new admissions for children who will start school in September 2024 are now open and will close 15 January 2024. Please remember that church attendance needs to be validated by your clergy/faith leader up to and including 7 January 2024 so please do not hand your Supplementary Information Form (SIF) in before then. The deadline for return of SIFs is 5 February 2024.

 The closing date for the secondary applications for Year 6 is 31st October 2023.

School Photos

If your child missed the Individual and Sibling photo session on Monday 16th, they can have their photo taken on Friday 1 December.

House Captains

Meet our newly elected House Captains who pledged their dedication and commitment to being role models for their younger peers and shared their commitment to organising fun and engaging activities for their house!

Sporting news

Cross Country

Our cross-country team did really well in their first event, which took place at Forty Hill.

Boys' Football

The boys football team played their first 2 matches on Wednesday. They played really well, beating Eldon school 1-0 with a goal from Ilia. Despite scoring first through George against Prince of Wales school, we closely lost 3-1 in a competitive game.

Tag Rugby

Children from year 5 and 6 went to Raglan school to take part in a Tag Rugby taster session. They learned all the key skills needed for rugby, which ended in playing some small sided matches. There will be some competitions coming up after half term, so anyone else who has been inspired by the Rugby World Cup or would like to be part of the team should speak to Mr Birkbeck.

Staffing news

We are delighted to welcome Mrs Zmajkovic back to our staffing team as School Business Manager.

We said goodbye to Mrs Mouyiassi this week. We thank her for all of her hard work as a teaching assistant and wish her well in the future.

Gardening news

The children worked very hard tidying the wildlife area today.  The waterhole and path look so much better.  It’s so wonderful to see how invested the children are and how much pride they take in the garden area.

Some of the children found a huge buried tree stump; they enjoyed digging it up and adding the rotting wood to the bug hotel. 

Sunflower seed harvest

We harvested the seeds from the sunflowers that year 4 had planted from seed in spring.  We will use our harvested seeds next year to grow more beautiful sunflowers.

Oranges for Christingle

Please let the school office know if you are able to donate the oranges for our Christingles. We are all very much looking forward to these special services. 

Uniform survey

Thank you to those parents who completed the uniform survey, the results have been very informative. We will now form a working party to discuss next steps.

Reception's writing

Reception have been working on writing their names using a printing technique. They use their fingers to dip in the paint and dot along the letters, trying to form them in the same way that they would write them.

Year 1 Local Walk

Last week, the children walked through our local area, Winchmore Hill. As part of our Geography unit, the children observed the different types of houses they could see as well as other physical and human features. Back in the classroom, they recounted their journey by writing and drawing what they saw using geographical vocabulary. They were superb!

Year 5 Space Entrepreneurs

As part of World Space Week, Year 5 became Space Entrepreneurs and created new inventions, products and designs for space. Some of our inventions included: designing a new satellite, creating sweets that give you oxygen and water, a simulator using headphones where you can see your family from space using nuclear fusion energy from stars, designing a space belt and a space suit, designing a space football pitch, designing shoes for space, inventing a space bed which washes the astronauts as they sleep, a website explaining how to convert your existing wheelie bin into a food waste powered rubbish rocket and many more exciting inventions! Super Science work, Year 5!

Star awards

Well done to all of the pupils who have visited me already this half term. They have shown amazing effort and determination in their work and fully deserve their star awards. A big congratulations to Theo in Year 5 who received a star certificate this week for achieving 3 star awards this half term. The first certificate I have awarded since becoming Head of School!

Parent consultations

These will take place in person on Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 November. More information to follow.

Anti bullying workshops

After half term on Wednesday 1^st November we have an outside agency coming into school to talk to the children about anti-bullying. Children in Reception to Year 4 will listen to an interactive workshop which makes use of role play to explore the differences between bullying and disagreements. Children in Year 5 and 6 will have workshops in class groups where they can discuss and explore these issues in greater depth and understand the skills they need to respond to bullying and conflict situations. Thank you to FOSPS for their donation towards this.  We will continue a range of activities within school during national Anti-Bullying week which begins on Monday 13 November. This year’s theme is ‘Make a Noise about Bullying’.

Collective Worship Committee

Congratulations to our newly appointed Collective Worship Committee. The Committee will meet each half term to discuss Collective Worship at St Paul’s. They will also plan and deliver their own Collective Worship each half term and play a key role in each Collective Worship, leading the call to prayer at the beginning and the prayer and blessing at the end.
