Celebrating Our Cultures Week

During the week beginning 29 April we will be celebrating the different cultures of the school and the local community. If any parents would like to be involved in the week, e.g, talking to the children and sharing their experiences and cultures please contact the school office.

Gardening News

The children have been working incredibly hard in the garden.  They have created a really lovely seating area and planted it with sensory grasses. The log seats are from a tree that was planted to commemorate 150 years of St Paul’s school. The tree sadly died but lives on in our wildlife garden.

Mid-Year Reports and Parent Consultation Meetings

Parents/Carers of children in Years 1-6 should have received their child's Mid-Year Report through the Parent Portal today. Please read and discuss them with your child before the Parent Consultation Meetings next Tuesday and Wednesday. Years 5 and 6 children are expected to attend the meetings with their parents/carers. Please contact the school office if you have any queries.

Graphic Design Help

If any parents are graphic designers and would be able to help with the design of a promotional flier for the school, please could you let Mrs Cresswell know via the school office.

The school Choir takes part in Prom Praise 4 Schools!

On Tuesday, choir set off to the Royal Albert Hall to take part in PP4S with over 2,500 other children. They sang a range of different songs which they have been working very hard on this year. They performed with a 70-piece orchestra, which was a very exciting experience! Everyone had a great time.

Sports News

On Friday, some girls went to Tottenham’s training ground to take part in a football event to celebrate International Women’s Day. They had a great time practising new skills and playing small-sided games. All the girls were given free tickets to the next Spurs ladies game and some were lucky enough to be chosen to be mascots at the next game. Connie (4L) was also selected to attend a development group with Spurs. The highlight of the day was meeting captain Hueng Min Son.

The girls football team played 4 matches at Southgate school. They all played some excellent football, drawing 2 games and losing 2. Well done girls!

The boys had 3 matches against Edmonton County this week. They won one game 6-1 and lost the other two. The boys all played really well and showed great sportsmanship. 

Good luck to the Year 4 girls who are representing Enfield next week in the London Youth Games finals.

World Book Day in Reception

Some children in Reception have enjoyed making their own bookmarks for World Book Day, decorating them with a variety of materials and drawing book characters on them too.

World Book Day in Year 1

In Year 1 we were busy all week!

We went to look at the books at the Book Fair. We chose a book from home to show the class. The Twits was a very popular choice! 

The classes switched for a story...Mrs Schia read to 1M and Mrs Milios to 1NS.

We enjoyed the story Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. We created our own Wild Things. We were authors and illustrators and wrote our own stories.

On Thursday we dressed up as book characters. Some were in disguise!

We took part in a Picture Book World Cup. There were 16 books entered (just some of the books we have read so far in Year 1). In class 1NS the winner was... Fantastic Mr Fox!

We enjoyed reading with our friends in KS2. We got cosy reading with a blanket and a biscuit. What a great way to enjoy a book! 

World Book Day in Year 2

The children absolutely loved World Book Day this year. All children were dressed up as their favourite book character and completed a book review explaining their favourite parts of their books. We created our very own bookmarks and had a class swap with year 5. The children read their favourite books to the year 5s and really enjoyed reading with them! They are already excited for next year!

World Book Day in Year 3

Year 3 had a fun day celebrating world book day. We dressed as our favourite characters, we took part in a live lesson where we designed a perfect library and we spent some time sharing our favourite books with year 1s.

World Book Day in Year 4

We celebrated World Book Day by writing a book review about our current English text - Odd and the Frost Giants. We took part in a BBC Live Lesson which focussed on how we can read for pleasure. In the afternoon, we went on a scavenger hunt through different books and had to find information from a range of texts. We also designed an alternative book cover for our favourite book! It was a busy day, but we all had lots of fun.

World Book Day in Year 5

Year 5 enjoyed taking part in a number of activities over book week: we photographed ourselves reading in an unusual place, made posters, read with some year 2 children and dressed up as our favourite book characters.  We loved being able to read with year 2 and getting to know more about their favourite books!

World Book Day in Year 6

6D and 6BT did a variety of World Book Activities. This whole week, we listened to audiobooks and compared them against each other. For us, Girl Missing was the most intriguing! We also watched a live lesson on BBC Teach exploring the differences between fiction and non-fiction books. We even had the opportunity to swap with the Year 4 classes to read to each other and Mrs Blundell and Miss Dhillon gave a riveting reading of ‘The Extraordinary Colours of Auden Dare’ to their partner classes.

Science Week in Reception

Reception have enjoyed a range of activities for science week. They made slime and saw a quick change once the ingredients were mixed. We made jelly and the children noticed how the jelly cubes dissolved in the hot water which took a few minutes but then the jelly took a few hours to set. We decided to find out if adding fruit to the jelly made a difference in how the jelly set. We also did some printing with time and light where the children cut out shapes and taped them to sugar paper. We have put them in the window to see what happens to the paper over time. They also took part in a Lego workshop.

Science Week in Year 1

This week, Year 1 took part in different workshops as part of Science week. We really enjoyed the robotics session where we worked collaboratively to put together different parts. We then made our robot move!

Science Week in Year 2

Year 2 had an exciting Science Week filled with engaging activities. They eagerly participated in both a Lego workshop, where they built various structures, and robot building workshops, where they created their own robots. Through these hands-on experiences, the children explored concepts in engineering, physics, and programming. The workshops not only developed their fine motor skills but also sparked their curiosity about science and technology. These activities provided a solid foundation for future learning and discovery in STEM fields.

Science Week in Year 3

The hildren enjoyed building robots out of Lego and then using coding software to programme the robot to move. Earlier in the week, they also used Lego to make different structures from limited plans. 

Science Week in Year 4

The children in Year 4 loved their robotics workshop for British Science Week on Wednesday. They built, coded and played with their robots. Lots of the children enjoyed racing their robots the most!

Science Week in Year 5

We began the week by taking part in two LEGO workshops: Historical Timeline Lego Workshop and Prepare Robo – Program and Build Day Workshop.

Historical Timeline Lego Workshop

Year 5 stepped back in time and recreated iconic landmarks from significant historical events. We worked together and raced against the clock to build our masterpieces; the pyramids, the Roman Empire, Apollo 2 Space Mission or the invention of the internet.

Prepare Robo – Program and Build Day Workshop

5HP worked in small groups to build robots using LEGO Mindstorms and then coded them. The children raced their robots at the end of the lesson.

Science Week in Year 6

To kick-start Year 6’s Science week, last week on Monday 4^th March, 6BT attended Winchmore School for an exciting hands-on science workshop in one of their science labs. During the session, for chemistry, they investigated diffusion in Agar Cubes and explored indicators with acids, alkali and water. For biology, they prepared an onion slide and investigated its cells using a microscope.

Year 6 loved the Historical timeline Lego Workshop which formally began the week. They had to work in pairs – racing against others in the class to see how many iconic landmarks from significant historical events they could make in a given time.
