Guidance for Parents
All children from Years 2 – 6 have been registered on the MyMaths website. MyMaths is a fantastic, fully interactive web-based tool full of lessons, online homework and maths games. This should help them to structure their maths work and enable you to see how they are progressing. The following information will help you support your child in accessing and using MyMaths.
How to access MyMaths
Go to www.mymaths.co.uk and login at the top of the page with the school’s username and password.
On the next page your child should enter their personal username and password in the My Portal box. MyMaths will then remember who they are and automatically log them in to the tasks.
The school username is: winchmore
The school password is: Radcliffe
Your child will be given a personal username (which is a 3 digit number)
And a personal password (3 letters)
Please contact your child’s class teacher if you do not have their personal username or password.
If your child has been set a task by their teacher it will appear in the Homework area. There is a link to the lesson if they want to revise first, and a link to the homework itself.
When your child completes both pages of an Online Homework they need to press the “checkout” button, then the scores will be saved to the database. Their teacher will be able to see how well they did and give feedback.
If a green star appears next to a topic, they have good skills in that area.
If an amber star appears they still have some difficulties.
If a red star appears they need to go back and relearn the topic. Get them to try the lesson again or ask their teacher for extra help.
If you want to work with your child, an effective strategy is to pretend that you have forgotten how to do something and ask them to show you how. Putting your child in the position of “teacher” is good for their confidence and gets them to talk about their thinking.
If no links are working, then you may have a Pop-Up Blocker. You must allow MyMaths to use Pop-Ups. We suggest you add www.mymaths.co.uk to your list of trusted sites.
Finally, your child (or you) can “have a go” with any activities by logging in with the school username and password only (without their personal portal) and then searching any activities/areas they wish to practise. This way, no results will be recorded.
Bug Club and Abacus
We would like to introduce to you our school reading and mathematics programme that joins books with eBooks and includes on-line maths games.
Why are we using eBooks / on-line maths activities?
Your children can enjoy reading books onscreen and completing fun quiz questions found in the eBooks.
The books will reinforce the phonics learnt in school.
The quiz questions will help your children practise their reading skills.
The maths games are fun, interactive and often competitive.
They will complement and build on work covered in class, consolidating their skills and understanding over a range of mathematical concepts.
How the programme works?
Your child will see eBooks or maths activities on their homepage.
Your class teacher will allocate your child eBooks / maths activities.
The book may be simpler than the other books your child reads but it is our hope that they will be able to read and access their Bug Club books independently.
Click on the book cover and see how many quiz questions there are to complete.
Read the book and click on the bug icons to open the quiz questions.
When your child has finished an eBook, it will move to ‘Books I Have Read’ where they can read it again.
With the maths games, they will be related to concepts already covered in class.
Click on the game and choose a level – bronze, silver or gold.
Follow the instructions and have fun.
Please note that the frequency of books and maths activities set will be at the discretion of the class teacher.
