In Year 6, a group of us wanted to make a difference in the world. Our teacher, Mr Timbrell, suggested that we look at ways of helping the environment. There are 5 of us in our group and we meet every Friday lunchtime with Mr Timbrell to discuss what we can do and we call ourselves the EcoVengers. There is a website called the Green Schools Project which gives us guidance on what we can do and gives us ideas and projects.
At our weekly meetings we discuss our aims and causes and we are thinking about litter, transport and global citizenship and what we can do to improve them. One of our aims is to make everybody in school involved and become more environmentally friendly. We want to help the school and to help the environment as well. As a start we ensure that all the lights are turned off when there is nobody in the room. This means that we can help lower the electricity bills. We also wish to encourage people to pick up litter.
We have interviewed various people including Mr Russell who suggested that there is a problem with the cars outside. He suggested that those who lived near should walk to school and those who live far away should park 5 minutes away from school and walk the rest of the way.
We interviewed the kitchen staff and they showed us the products they use which are eco-friendly and they also try not to use single-use plastic.
We are very much enjoying being in the EcoVengers team and we hope we can make a difference to the world in our own small way.
