This school is really quite different from St Paul’s as children go there from when they are 3 years old until they are 18. There are five classes in each year group and it is massive. There is a swimming pool and a basketball court. The children start school at 9.00 in the morning and go home at 4.30 pm, with two hours for lunch and play. El Pilar was built in the early 1920s and there is a wall commemorating the many pupils and teachers who died in the Spanish Civil War. The school was used for some of the Hogwart scenes in the Harry Potter films and we passed the flying car actually used in one of the films when we walked to the school from our hotel.
Another exciting visit was to the Bernabéu Stadium which is home to the Real Madrid football team. The stadium has a museum where all the championship league cups that the team have won are on display along with all the named footballers’ shirts. We were taken to see the changing rooms, both home and away, and we saw their hot tub, Jacuzzi, showers, massage chair and the boxes containing the kits which the team wear each week. We went through the tunnel into the ground and saw the big Real Madrid sign which the team touch for good luck and we sat on the seats that the team sit on.
Whilst in Madrid, we ate at several different restaurants. One evening we had tapas , on another evening we ate the most amazing burgers ever and during our visit we also tried churros with chocolate and cream.
We thought this trip to Madrid was really exciting and we had the most amazing time ever.
