Year 5 Homework
Reading Log: The children are required to log the number of pages they are reading and the book they are reading in the blue Reading Record book. This is ongoing and is to be completed as and when they have read any pages of their reading book (or other text) at home or at school (at least three times a week).
Spellings: Handed out on Monday and tested the following Monday. These can be found in the back of the blue Reading Record book.
A reading record question (RRQ) OR Grammar investigation will be given each Monday, due the following Monday.
RRQ : This is to be answered in detail in the back of the blue Reading Record book with references and examples.
Grammar Log: A different grammatical word will be investigated. The children need to write a definition for the word, give examples and write sentences using it in the Grammar Log.
Please check your child’s Reading Record each weekend and sign it to be checked on Monday.
Children should be continuously practicing ALL the times tables which are then tested on Mondays.
General Homework (Homework Diary)
A piece of homework, based on a subject area covered during the week, or to be covered the following week, will be handed out on Friday and due in on Wednesday.
It is important that Homework Diaries and Reading Records are signed each week by a parent once homework is completed. If you have any queries, write a note in the Parent/Teacher comments section. The homework diaries will be checked on Mondays.
Class email address if homework is completed on a computer (for homework only):
Class 5BH: email@example.com Class 5t: firstname.lastname@example.org
The approximate amount of time per week devoted to homework which will be expected of children in Year 5 is 2-2.5 hours.
Games will usually be taught on a Wednesday morning but Games/PE kit should be in school every day. Earrings must either be removed for PE or tape provided to cover them up.
