Year 5 Homework
Reading Log: We will be trialling submitting this via J2. The children are required to log the number of pages they are reading and the book they are reading in the document provided. This is ongoing and is to be completed as and when they have read any pages of their reading book (or other text) at home or at school (at least three times a week). Please check your child’s Reading Record each weekend and sign the Homework Diary which will be checked on Monday.
Spellings: Distributed on Monday and tested the following Monday. These will be distributed via J2 unless otherwise notified.
Either a reading record question (RRQ) OR Grammar investigation will be given each Monday, due the following Monday. Again, these will be set via j2 and should be answered on j2.
Reading Record Question: This is to be answered in detail with references and examples.
A different grammatical area will be discussed each week and follow up work should be recorded or completed on the Grammar Bug website as directed.
We recommend a selection of the following books for your child to read throughout the year from our Recommended Reading List
Children should be continuously practicing ALL the times tables unless otherwise instructed. These will be tested on Mondays.
General Homework (Homework Diary)
A piece of homework, based on a subject area covered during the week, or to be covered the following week, will be handed out on Friday and due in on Wednesday.
It is important that Homework Diaries are signed each week by a parent once homework is completed. If you have any queries, write a note in the Parent/Teacher comments section. The homework diaries will be checked on Mondays.
Class email address if homework is completed on a computer (for online homework only that is not completed via J2):
The approximate amount of time per week devoted to homework which will be expected of children in Year 5 is 2-2.5 hours.
Games will usually be taught on a Monday afternoon but Games/PE kit should be in school every day. Earrings must either be removed for PE or tape provided to cover them up.
